You need to be more specific about what kind of AC constant voltage device. I have seen constant voltage transformers (I have never bothered to look at the theory behind their operation.) I have also seen motorised variacs (Single and three phase.) I would think now that an inverter system could be used or a variation on an electronic lighting transformer.
