Can I use a 3 pole audio jack in place of a 4 pole audio jack?

I would like to connect a nokia hands free port to a PC via two mono jacks...

The Nokia Pin out is
Tip -> Speaker+
ring1 -> mic+
Ring2 ->speaker -
sleev -> mic -

If I tie both - together, cant I insert a 3 pole jack in place of a 4 pole jack... The trouble is that I am not able to find 4 pole jacks.

Regards...

If you put the grounds together, you can use a stereo jack.

tip-> speaker +
ring-> mic +
sleeve-> both grounds.

If you want a jack with 4 connections, use an XLR.

Measure the resistance of the source to see if the speaker - is the same as the mic -. If they are different and you short them together then something might blow up.
