Atv display

Hey guys. I’m working on a 2001 Honda rubicon 500 atv. A common problem with these is the display goes out. You can get it to work temporarily by doing the following. Turn the key switch to the on position then pull the fuse, then reinstall the fuse. The display will work properly until you cycle the key. Once the key has been turned off it will not turn back on. Unless you repeat the fuse pulling Here is a link that is on YouTube showing this process.

I am very green on electronic repairs. Any thoughts on what would cause this issue? It seems odd to me that by having the key on then pulling the fuse would get it to work. Any help would be appreciated
 
My guess would be that there is some start-up sequence that should happen automatically when the ignition is turned on. That start-up sequence stops working due to age, and then you manually perform the start-up sequence with the fuse.

It's possible that there is an electrolytic capacitor that is too old that affects the start-up timing, that could be replaced.

Also there is no end of different issues that can be caused by poor battery states and poor connections. I wouldn't be surprised if the problem is a symptom of a weak battery or a bad connection somewhere.

There are lots of guesses in what I've just written. l would try to find a circuit diagram of the display unit before going any further. Also if it's as common a problem as the video suggests, there may be a fix if you search for it.
 
Thanks yes battery is good. I have 12 volts going to the display and 14 volts when running. So all power to the display is good. And has a brand new battery. I have been looking for a fix There are a few companies that will fix it for you but I like to do things myself. I have not been able to find the schematic of the board yet. Just the schematic of the whole machine so it does not really break the display down.
