D dougy83 Well-Known Member Most Helpful Member Jan 28, 2013 #2 AFAIK 8051 doesn't have a data direction register; setting the port bits high allows them to be used as an input. This sets the pin high with a weak pullup that can be overcome by whatever you're connecting to it, e.g. a switch to GND.
