Another issue with 10^2

Hi...

When I enter 10^2 in my calculator, it says 1000.

But the question is what is 100, the answer says 10^2...

I need to write 10^1 to get 100, but it's not the answer in the book.

What name brand and model is the calculator?

I edited, it says 1000, sorry. But still it's not 100! :|

The calculator is a SHARP EL-531W
It's set up to RAD, is it good ? I tried with Degrees and Grades

I even tried with the Windows calculator.

I'm missing something ? 10^2 = 10 x 10 x 10 ?

10^1 = 10x10 ?

You're not entering 10e2 are you? Because that would be 10*10^2 which would be 1000.

1e2 = 1*10^2 = 10^2 = 100
10e2 = 10*10^2 = 10^3 = 1000

It's important to remember that the "e" exponential key stands for "10^" and therefore already includes the base 10 in it and you don't need to add it explicity. If you use the x^y key, that's different since you now get to define the base and you would have to explicity define the 10.

The question in the book is "Write 100 as an exponent of ten" (Straight french to english translation hehe)

And the answer is "10²"

Are they mistaken?

1³=1000
1²=100

Is there a differance between 10^2 and 10e2 (10²) ??

The book is french and ^ doesn't exists tabeurnac ;(

On the calculator, is used the key Exp, but there's the key X² and x³

When I enter 10 and press x², it gives me 100, yes.

Found a key xy (x exponent y), too.

And I've seen that whenI press the Exp, it write my dial times 10e (or ^)

Lol you may laugh at me for not knowing the differance of ^ and e and ², haven't done maths in years but I must and at all cost know it in the futur.

[e] is just the shortcut key for [x^y] when you want x = 10.
[²] is another shortcut key for [x^y] when you want y=2

[3] [x^y] [5] = 3^5
[3][e][5] = 3*10^5

so yes, there is a difference between 10^2 and 10e2.
You see, 10^2 = 10² but 10e2 = 10^3. You can basically replace the e with *10^. It inherently includes a 10, and when you type out another 10 in front of it, you multiply it by another 10.

The bolded parts are the same thing:
10e2 = 10×10² = 1000
