Hello all,

I am thinking of a project in which a device could be made that can hold a SIM card and connected to a computer. After this it can be read from android SDK running on Ubuntu
machine and can be controlled like a phone. Mean to say that we can call from this interface and receive call too, means all stuff that we could do from a phone.
Is it possible? please tell me how could I do that(the hardware part).

This could help people who don't have smartphone by just removing SIM card from their normal cellphone and insert into that device connected to their PC and enter into the world of android.

You want to be able to call using the GSM network? not possible with just the sim card! you would need most of the phone electronics.

yeah absolutely, but tell me one thing that, Is it a feasible idea ?
Also please tell me where on web could I get help regarding phone circuitry.

You really want a phone.

A PC running your regular OS is not powerful enough to emulate a cellular radio.

If all you want is testing the waters with android, use the emulator.

Otherwise, there are some very cheap sub $100 androids over ebay.

Its not feasible. Not unless you have a masters degree in electronics and specialist equipment at hand.

Its all tiny tiny stuff. The best you could do is connect a sim card to a PIC and bluetooth module - and thats not anywhere near a phone, at best its bluetooth with some external memory.

just buy a phone

Well I have already a Samsung galaxy S2, the only reason why I was asking about this is bcoz I need to do a project.

Have you written a proposal to use a PC to emulate a smartphone?

Withdraw it and do something perhaps using the Google IOIO board.
