I was given a school project on making an amplifier. Can anyone tell me how I can make a hand held amplifier to hear conversation from a distance that you could not normally hear. schmatic or something thanks

What you can do, is build an "Electonic ear" circuit, which are small, and simple.

If the electronic ear is not enough amplification, you can add a simple amplifier circuit, using a cheap LM386 or LM741 amplifier circuit but this will add more noise, and more battery drain.
