Adding insulation to Litz wire for offline SMPS transformer

Hi,
Affordable offtheshelf Litz wire does not have the electrical strength for use in offline transformers.
Therefore, it must be coated.
Has anyone ever tried coating it in this kind of tape...?

...is it do-able?......do you end up with big "thick bits" due to creasing and overlapping?

Vipwire makes magnet wire that is wrapped with kapton tape. But I'm only aware of single strand versions.

But you mention that you're trying to take an "affordable offtheshelf" wire and improve it's rating. How affordable will the finished product be after you've spent the cost and labor with this extra step? What will you need to do in order to get your new wire agency approved?
