I would like to create a very simple RC circuit to get a single light bulb or LED to blink. Is it possible to do this with a small voltage source? Say a AA battery? If so where could I find the schematic?

You need to have at least one active device, either a timer, opamp or a UJT. Look up UJT oscillator.
