Just a note, folks. Philips recently extended their 8051 flash-based micro line with the LPC90x and 91x family. Very low cost(~$1), 2-clock instruction cycle, and lots of on-chip peripherals. Good for many of the projects that come up in these forums.

The parts look competitive compared to other small (low pin count, ~1K flash) micro's like Microchips' PIC12F629 and Atmels' TinyAVR parts.

It doesn't look like the parts can be ordered online through Philips yet, they're a fairly recent addition.
