Hi

I am not getting any output from the 4-16 line decoder (MC14514) when the 4-bit counter (74HC163) is connected, although the counter is working. When the inputs to the decoder are hardwired to the 5V/0V rail, the respective output pin goes high so the chip itself is fine. I didn't worry about compatibility because both are CMOS.

One more thing...does anyone know of a TTL 4-16 line decoder with non-inverting outputs?

Thanks

hi,

On the 4514 I assume that you have connected the /E line either high or low, with a test signal while the 163 counter is running?

Also the EL is tied high.

Whats the scope show on the output levels of the counter

Hi

Thanks for your reply. I found out what the problem was...the LED's I had connected to see the output of the counter used too much voltage and the decoder was left out!

Thanks once again.
