6V to 16F88 to much?

I am constructing a mobile IR-transmitter. It will use 4 x AAA (4 x 1.5V = 6V) batterys.
In the datasheet the absolute maximum VDD to a 16F88 is 6V.

Should i insert a diode to lower the voltage 0.5V or is it unnessecary? Can i use the absolute maximum voltage, or will the life get much shorter of the 16F88?

I will use rechargable batterys, and i think they don't have 1.5V but 1.2 or something, right. Or is that just old NiCD batterys?

I've not used the 16F88, but I've run many other PIC's off 6V batteries without any problems.

I've done that as well, but the low current of the PIC didn't drop hardly any voltage across it :lol:

NiCd and NiMh are both 1.2V, four of these would be ideal for feeding your PIC.
