5V linear regulator circuit with 7V ~ 10V input

That is not a linear regulater. Why not just use a 7805?

Very basic:

There must be a load for the 7805 to operate correctly.

What is that 47u and what is load .....

A 47 microfarad, polarized capacitor (as is the 100u component), used for "smoothing" the DC.

The "load" is a term used to signify what the output (power) of the regulator is suppling power to.

Can I use 220uF in place of 100uF capacitor
