40 pin IDE adapter from 44pin ide adapter

Hi I have a spare ide to usb adapter that allows me to use an laptop Hdd over usb. I was wondering is it possible to just solder on a 40 pin ide connector so I use my cdrom over usb?
 
40-Pin to 44-Pin 2.5 IDE cable

The extra four pins are power. The pins are otherwise wired straight through so you could solder your own connection if you wanted, it'd probably just be easier to buy the adapter though.
