12v project help

I need assistance with a 12v project. I am a ameture astrophotographer and using 12v power sources out in the field is a necessity. The question is I need a 12v to 7.4v 2A converter to keep my DSLR running without having to use a 12v to 120v power converter because those drain my deep cycle batteries dry in no time. I'm not experienced in electronics and I do not want to ruin a $3000 camera and I've tried searching for options to this and my next question so I've come to you for help. I'm only guessing I need a buck style converter to accomplish this and figuring out the right one is confusing. The other project to go with this is powering my usb hub off of 12v the ac adapter uses 120v to 5v-3 to 3.5a. I know a 3a converter should be fine with it but what are my options. I need something simple to piece together and place it in a project box that I need not to make something way over the top just simple easy and cheap. Can someone point me in the right direction of exactly what to buy or a better solution to my problem.

At 3a you'd need a controller chip, mosfet and load of other stuff, unless you really want to build one the one just referenced to is a good idea esp for a 3k cam.

You may use LM2576 it is 3A Sw-Reg with only a standard coil and fast diode
Its efficiency is high and will be good
it works both ways i.e boost up or buck down
Use LM2576-Adj to get the non standard volt you need, all in data sheet

They are all over ebay from China, look for DC to DC converters.

I have one running 24/7. My "little box" is somewhat universal. It uses a 5.5/2.1 and 5.5/2.5 as inputs which are common connectors and an adapt-a-plug for the output.
