Need a low-parts count audio amp to use in a glider. Power supply is 12V battery, so low quiescent current is a plus. Need about 1/4W of audio into a 4Ω speaker, just for voice range, 300-5000Hz (not hifi). Ability to do audio summing from switchable multiple line-level sources (~0.5Vp-p) is desirable.

Anything better than an LM386?

For efficiency's sake, you should really consider using a higher impedance speaker than 4Ω if you want such a tiny amount of power - I'd consider going all the way up to 64Ω.
