to answer your question there are several kinds of Rotary Phase Converters (they are not generators)

I finally remembered that the utility linemen and engineers called it an "Open Delta" configuration, as opposed to a normal/closed delta configuration for true 3 phase
Well I finally finished going thru that thread. Looong time lol. I found several schematics that I will look at further while offline. Thanks again for steering me there.
I also figured out that CNC RPC's are probably just oversized/heavier built, which is helpful since I am dealing with a...
A minimal amount of caps would probably look like what I call a "wild leg", enough caps of the right size could "tune" it to look like true 3 phase. I actually think your first diagram answers your question concerning true 3 phase, and of course the voltage and current values would be higher...
So I wanted to comment on the phase shift question concerning single phase to three phase. I am an experienced mill electrician, I also have a 2 yr degree in Electronics Technology from 1987. I am in the southern U.S., in Louisiana. In my area the local utility can supply customers with two...
RPC advice
Hi all,
I am in the U.S. I am trying to help a friend with a small wood stake mfg. mill. He has a 50 HP commercially built rotary phase converter; 230V single phase in, 230V three phase out, it starts by itself when he turns on the supply breaker for it. It has a self start...
