    circuitlab

yes, it's a quick (or not so quick) and simple option if you don't want to install the program. One benefit is the easy way of sharing the circuit you have made, as it's automatically hosted.

    circuitlab

anyone seen this? free simulation software that requires no install. Obviously not up to the standard of the full blown packages, but for anyone looking for a quick and cheap option, it's pretty good

    Transformer help

N on 1 join 2-3 L on 4 take 0-120 from 1 and 2 but you need to know how much current your meter will draw.

    'Power Saving Voltage Conditioners'

I've seen a number of the above units now being marketed for home use. It makes some sense if you were in a large building with a lot of traditional lighting units to run the lighting circuit at 220v or so, to reduce power consumption, but the ones I have seen recently are designed to drop the...

    Waterpump cutoff (for broken pipe)

can you monitor the other end of the system, to see if the water is arriving? if it isn't then there is a leak and shut off the pump

Want to buy a soldering iron

if you're new to soldering, a couple of 'tips' for you don't leave it on for long periods un used, this just wastes the bits life clean it with a damp sponge - if the sponge is on the solder station, don't put the whole thing under the tap, just the sponge ;) personally i find small irons...

    Transformer Help

it almost certainly runs as 0v 9v 0v 9v. join the two 0v terminals, and check you have 0v between the two 9v terminals. if you do, then join them up. if you have 18v then the connections are reversed (9v will probably measure about 11v o/c)

    DIY Coil Winder

you need reverse so you can wind in both directions ;) the wire is held in a reel behind the machine, it should come through a tensioner, and enters the traverse. the spindle rotates, TOP COMING. then you need to add insulating tape, which you hold in your hand. stick it to the coil, and...

how to calculate maths in a guitar amp schematic.

good old **broken link removed** I was on a flight back from Malta once, and two 'old people' sat next to me. ohh dear, this will be fun. anyway had a quick hello, and he asked what I had been doing over there, and I mentioned the electronics company I been to. He said I used to be 'in'...

how warm/hot is safe for a transformer

the industry standard grade of lamination generates 5.3W/kg when running at 1.5Tesla smaller transformers will have less losses as they weigh less, but less surface area to loose the heat from. it's reasonable to have half the losses on the core and half on the copper. so at tickover the...

How to design simple circuit for measuring nanosecond?

why not run several chips in series, so you get a much longer delay which is measurable, and then divide the answer? if you want accuracy, and are prepared to spend some cash then order 100 chips. or 1000 and get much longer delays. alternately is the info on the datasheet?

Creating a circuit for turn signals on a vehicle

my one relay solution is simpler than your two bridges. as for my choice of cad package, would autocad have conveyed the message any better? in case of confusion, the relay being high resistance will earth out via the bulbs, without illuminating them.

Creating a circuit for turn signals on a vehicle

just use one relay, and then you can use bulbs or leds :) with the sidelights off the relay pulses in time to the indicators, with the sidelights on it pulses out of time. do i win?:D

how warm/hot is safe for a transformer

it's hard to find materials to make a transformer that are rated at less than 130'C (class B). Winding wire is pretty much all 155 or 180'C rated. 23'c rise is very very very cool.

    Fan current vs. Audio

you certainly don't need to be up at 100kHz to avoid audio problems. unless you're a dog ;)
