    Use channel A to open and B to close. Both on monetary. Use latching relays that will unlatch with the limit switches.

    59 Ohm resistor

    Sometimes custom high power resistors are made to keep the parts count or cost down. Just replace it with what you can. If the old one over heated? you should go for a higher power anyway.

    My best guess right off the top of my head is it may have a bad rectifyer and is sending to much ribble to the DC caps?
