MPASM comes as part of MPLAB, so you need to download MPLAB to get MPASM - as you have already found out the only version of MPASM available for download seperately is ancient.

i downloaded the latest version of MPLAB (v6.6) from the microchip website. it came with MPASM v3.8. but then i found the link

**broken link removed**

this is MPASM v3.7. so any of u who dont want to download the whole MPLAB package u can just download MPASM. it will save u about 29MB of downloading :)

If you start working a bit with the MPLAB IDE, you will get fond of the extra features such as the simulator, stopwatch, etc...

you'll be glad you've downloaded the whole package...
