Identify pin 1 without any markings?

A datasheet would be helpful. I suspect the chip looks like this:

The shaded area is not colored, but rather, it is more beveled. Both sides will have some bevel, but the #1 pin is on the side with more bevel. This example is the LTC15601.

Recheck the datasheet for your device. You will probably see some indication for a bevel. If not, please post a link to its datasheet.
