College Project: We want to build a device for our inter-campus payments.Stuck at a simple problem, Actually simple for you all not for us. :)

Can a finger print scanner be made out for audio jack of mobiles? Something like an mpos, the way Square reads card. We have seen few thread from other forums where they say it's possible, but they are little old.

Can someone please help here, It would mean a lot. Can it be made?

sure it can be done,
but you need to create an encoder for finger data to audio wave, then cell phone will need to be able to decode from that.

just a guess, but if the hardware does not require much power, and the audio can put it out... you may be able to swing rectifying a bass noise, otherwise may need plan b, maybe a solar cell/usb connection/ or external power supply

Scanners with USB are already there. I was asking for audio jack, can we put the battery inside? Or charge by full volume buttons somehow?

gotta check supply and demand of power (how many watts are for a cellphone headphones)... thats how square and other RFID tags do it, they power their chips from the RF wave, or else they need their own internal battery... and charger
