My dad used to be in the liquor business and people would swear they could name dozens of bourbons from tasting them. Fix up 5 tastes with the same bourbon and see how many answers you get. Try 5 caps and see what you hear. The bourbons are more fun.

The guitar tone control cuts medium high frequencies above 250Hz or above 1kHz which cuts all distortion caused buy any coupling capacitors.
A test should be made for wideband audio through various types of coupling capacitors, not filter capacitors.
Audio amplifiers do not cut all medium and high frequencies, they produce all frequencies to 20kHz and higher.

Ceramic capacitors are microphonic and their value changes as the signal voltage varies which causes low frequency distortion.

Someone told me that the Dielectric Absorption of the caps also influences 'Sound Quality'
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dielectric_absorption

Now I see why PEN <> PET caps, but still better than X7R

The Dissipation factor (related to ESR) should also be optimal.

I was thinking of trying to use an MLCC X7R as a solidstate 'microphonic' device for contact mic_ing. I guess the DA indicates why this might be a prob.

Audiophoolery becomes the raging issue in this department. Become suspect when your information source also tells you that selecting the right power cord or using special low-E (oh, that's for windows), low-oxygen, etc. plaid-plated silver and gold with polytrilufate anti-coaxial insulation for speaker cables is the ONLY way to go.

Some phools believe ANYTHING especially when it is not true.
Some people are tone deaf so that music sounds like noise to them.
Some people think that acid rock and rap are music.

Hi AG

I would like to hear your Personal opinion about this player: https://www.ponomusic.com/#home
Remember, tvtech loves to hear your side of things.

Do you think it will go down well after Kickstarter??

The fact that this campaign was the Third most successful ever in Kickstarter history.. Heck Neil Young is spearheading this whole thing.
They plan to bring original best quality to all out there..as recorded in a Studio..as the Artists heard it :)

Your thoughts and I trust your judgement.

Regards,
tvtech

Ponomusic (I first read it as Pornomusic) is too much. Its frequency response extends to video and radio frequencies which is not needed.
But I betcha it still has an awful sounding compressor so that the background music level bounces up and down by the beat of the music.

That's why smart "experts" never go into blind tests.

I actually supported the kickstarter, because I'm interested in a music player that isn't locked down by Apple to use software and proprietary connectors. I'm skeptical of the sound quality, but willing to test it with an open mind. Maybe I'll post the results and some tear-down photos when I get the unit?

One thing I'm pretty sure it won't have is automatic gain control, as you described. No musician wants that, and the guys designing this thing don't seem stupid.
