L297/L298 can handle max 2A, but to drive stepper at e.g. 10A, CAN I add one mosfet to each L298N output pin(2,3,13,14). So mosfet will handle 10A.

Can it work to drive stepper at 10A with L287/L298?

With only one added MOSFET per pin you would lose the polarity-reversal ability which the IC has.

You're still fighting this? A dedicated stepper driver and you would have the machine up and running by now.
