guyz how can we convert a port to input or output ?? and what is the initial stage of ports in the at892051 microcontroller and also the timer is same as 8051 means the TMOD register has the same configuration or not?

AFAIK 8051 doesn't have a data direction register; setting the port bits high allows them to be used as an input.

This sets the pin high with a weak pullup that can be overcome by whatever you're connecting to it, e.g. a switch to GND.
