Default Any special care needed to run power from a Li-ion battery?

I have a rechargeable 3.7V Li-Ion Battery and charger, which was originally meant for a camera. I know that they take special care to charge, but are any special precautions needed in using them? Are these harmed by being run down by a circuit that doesn't have some intelligent cut off feature? It doesn't have a mah rating on it, but being under a square inch in size I think it would make a nice power source for a tiny RC car I'm working on that's going to use pager motors.
