Robotic Gripper/arm - Electronic Circuits Projects Diagrams Free

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on a gripper that could open up 5 inches, and be able to hold on to a pound. A drawing would be cool, also a motor that would be able to do this. One other thing with the arm is possibly having a telescoping boom with the gripper on the end of it, possibly strectching out 15 inches, then being able to pick up the weight of a pound. What type of motor to use for the boom, and prehaps a drawing of a boom.

Any information at all will be greatly appreciated.
