There are many circuits around that use the polaroid (and other) ultrasonic range finders. Here is one that I found http://hamjudo.com/sonar/

I just bought a pair of Devantech SRF04 rangefinders and connected them to a pic 16f876. Works great. I highly recommend.

I'll send you the code if you'd like.

Bought them from Acroname.com $35 each.
havn't installed them on a robot yet though.
