Believe me guys xbox is much worse then any other console. Ive had 3 so far . I take great care of them. The first 2 over heated and this one has a dvd drive problem. And the newest ones off the shelves still overheat.

I called 18004myxox and they told me it was a hardware problem and send it in.. Yea no shit its a hardware problem. THEY WOULDENT EVEN TELL ME WHERE TO ORDER A PART FROM.

I mean yea u gotta make money ,but come on. Thousands of defective counsols and you still gotta pay to fixem and wait 3 weeks to getem back.

A new pcb cost me nothing becuase I still had the old piece of crap . I swapped boards and Im gonna flash it. saved me 100 bucks.

Anyway it was the pcb. When I originally replaced the lens I forgot to desolder the antistatic bridge. Can this be the reason the pcb fried? It at least worked for 10 minutes before replacing the lens, but didn't work at all after powering on.(with antistatic solder point on it)
you guys are great excuse my bad typing and spelling im not that much of a comp guy

This is why I tend to spend the (sometimes absurdly extra) amount of money on the no questions asked you bring it in we'll replace it warranties. Peace of mind if nothing else. If that unit fails you get a new one, that day, and usually have the option of buying a new warranty for the bought unit as well. Then you're at least only paying for a new warranty not an entire new unit.

i work in the consumer electronics industry, and i see a lot of bad drive mechs, especially the samsungs. spindle motors in samsung drives are by far the largest number of failures, with lasers a close second (if the laser lights and tries to focus, it's probably ok). you can try to salvage a spindle motor from another similar samsung drive, or just get a new mech. they're about $30 from samsung. just make sure you get the part number off of the drive. there should be a barcode sticker, and the part number is buried in the number on the sticker. it begins with an A and another letter (usually AK or AH), then there's 7 digits and another letter. that's the part number. i don't have a sticker in front of me, but it usually has something long like 20 characters on it, so i'm going to give an example that might not be totally accurate, but should be enough information for you to recognize the part number...

    number on sticker:
    C038475AK9701234B29F83727

    embedded part number:
    AK97-01234B
