The Junebug is a simplified PICkit2, the programmable VDD source and the EEPROMs have been removed and a 18F1320 tutor with 6 charlieplexed LEDs, 3 pushbuttons (+1 reset button), a 38kHz TSOP IR demodulator, 2 variable resistors plus various connectors for your own devices and an 2x5 ICD/ICP connector for programming your own projects has been added. It was built to introduce people to their first PIC as many folks who bought the older Inchworm kit didn't know what to do next. So I designed a small portable PIC lab around the excellent PICkit2 programmer/debugger & logic tool plus the advanced 18pin PIC18F1320. I've been doing contract work for the past year and can't wait to get back to putting new JPUG issues together and get one or two more kits out there. (The long awaited Ladybug 18F67J60 Ethernet kit is on the front burners) Last edited by blueroomelectronics; 7th November 2009 at 05:09 AM.

Up until recently I used a JDM programmer that I was quite pleased with. Now I use the PicKit2.

is it has a port so the user can connect their own sub circuit and use the 1320 chip on the JUNEBUG to control the sub circuit nd use the switches, leds etc on the junebug to sequence your sub circuit. I built some adapter cables so I can plug into the sub circuit port (don't know what elas to call it?) as well as the programming port which one uses to program an off board PIC (like a robot with an on board PIC). saves having to remove the PIC each time. I believe it's called in circuit programming. For the price you can't go wrong hey Bill, I accept paypal for endorsements ---LOL

Hey, i am using SuperPro 280U and i am pretty happy with it. It might be little bit expensive compare to willem or other programmers but here is the list of supported PICs by the programmer that i am using: Microchip device list supported by SuperPro 280U

Apparently there is a big difference between the two version, check out this review of the PicKit3 EEVblog #39 – PICkit 3 Programmer/Debugger Review @ Electronics Engineering Video Blog Podcast Personally, I have used a PicKit2 at uni and I liked it so much and needed a programmer (my home made one didn't work and needed LPT port) so I bought a PicKit2. I haven't had a chance to do anything with it yet, however I have big plans once exams are over. It does everything I currently want and if necessary I'll make a PicKit 3 clone down the track using my PicKit 2 :P

I use a Promate II for anything production, a Picstart plus for tinkering with and a Pic Kit 2 which is still in its box after a year

I use a Picstart plus £50 off ebay. Microchip keep up to date with new devices free of charge. The updates come with each new revision of MPLAB.

I would wait on the PICKIT 3 they are having many complants about it. The junebug is a clone of the pickit 2. I would get the pickit 2 because it cost less and is well supported. gogo

BUT pickit2 doesn't have on board tutor, extra input/output devices like push buttons or LEDs or expansion capabilities like the Junebug. Bill did a great job in designing the little Junie.

I use a PICKit 2 and the PIC16F690 training board that is supplied with it. Works good.

I've got production programmers but for general development and some ICSP I use my MikroElektronika EasyPIC4 and EasyPIC6. They are an excellent way to work fast with PICs, these days I rarely do any soldering until AFTER the project is finished.

Hello Mr RB I was looking at the EasyPic4 not sure if I want to go that way. What language do you program in?
