It works for me. It's just the datasheet for the Wiznet W5100 premade module.
That's what I originally tested with before I made up a board.

I am just playing with one at the moment - did you manage to get DHCP working on it?

I haven't implemented DHCP on it. I just assigned a static IP, since it's connecting to my home network. I guess I should put in DHCP sometime, but it's not a priority for me. I'm actually working with the W5300 now. Pretty much the same thing in terms of interface, though.
I'm currently working on a simple RF mesh network that I'd like to integrate into the HTTP server and be able to control RF nodes and read sensor data over the web.

Unless your remote has a web browser on it, an embedded WiFi module is going to be complete overkill.
These RFM12B RF modules have been pretty awesome. On my test setup, I haven't been able to get a bad packet even from the basement of one corner of the house to the top opposite corner. Low power and more than adequate data rate for a good multipurpose remote plus a simple mesh or P2P network. I'll just add a module to my wired embedded ethernet board to report node data over the HTTP server.
