Can some one help me with which programmer to get. I have the pic16f84a chip 18 pin. I want to do this project: Show Tempature on LCD I just want the least expensive programmer that will work and hopefully has free software to go with it. I see different boards with huge price differences and not sure which will work for me. I see this: SparkFun Electronics - 18 Pin PIC Development Board and the PICDEM PIC18 EXPLORER BOARD Product Search - microchipDIRECT

You want a programmer, those are target boards and still require a programmer like the PICKit2 or my Junebug. The PICDEM PIC18 has a bootloader but IMO that's less than ideal.
