Default Using Mplab ICD2 with DIP package

Hi friends. Iam new to this forum.
Can anyone tell me how to program DIP packages usingMplab ICD2.I know there is a universal programmer of microchip but i havn't bought it.
Can it be used for programming 16f870.

You can program DIP chips with the ZIF adapter PCB or do it ICSP. I use In Circuit Serial Programming because it allows for fast reprogramming and debugging.
Yes, you can use the ICD2 to program the 16F870 and most other PICs.

Thank you.
I want a development tool kit ie., a programmer + board for personal use.
I would like to use pic suitable for motor control application with lcd interface.
Can u suggest the pic suitable for this application. How to get a development tool kit?Is Any circuit available for development board?

Take a look at this site:

The Junebug is a PICkit 2 compatible programmer and is pretty popular.
If you want an ICD2 clone then the InchWorm is an option. You can even find a preprogrammed chip for it here if you want to build your own.
