Default home project help

new at this chip programing game but I building a home project and would like to use a home made micro controller. I am building a motion detecter (pir) activated digital cam.. heres what I need from the controller.

1. upon detection pir relay closes giving a input to controller.
2. starts timer#1 (off delay) & timer #2 (on delay)
3. out put from timer#1 turns on relay #1 which powers camera up for 6 min.
4. Timer #2 output after 1sec. delay turns relay#2 on which triggers camera shutter,focus & flash.
5. relay #2 needs to be turned off after 4sec.
and I need to do this cheap

is this the place to get help learning what pic chip I need. how to build a programmer. and how to program it anybody willing to give an old fat man some help thanks ops:

Have a look at my PIC tutorials at http://www.winpicprog.co.uk, the 16F628 would be a good choice for your project, although any PIC would be OK.
