Or buy the USB based PICkit2 or Junebug that will work with your laptop.

When you find the box you still have to debug the ICD2. We have been over this many times in the days prior to PICkit2. As said earlier, do the loopback test without a processor first. Do it at the RX TX processor pins to check the wiring all the way to the processor. That with a working processor/crystal should allow the ICD2 connect even if other things are not quite right. In general ICD2s are not too difficult to get working. I have an assortment of them including several powered by a single 1 amp voltage regulator set to 13V, I did not have to generate VPP from RS232. Bill got me started with his Junebug and the ICD2s are mostly paperweights.

The loopback test without the PIC (read loop in the socket for PIC) works but im not able to connect to ICD2 (Im using bills Bootlader and have a external power on the ICD2)
But at my school they sell out the old computers that they er changing to teachers only ( i have tried to get one without any luck) edit: But thinking of it it might be the crystal that are not working properly. Is there any way to check it? or it might be an ide to actually connect it !?!?!?! ![]() Last edited by Kryten; 8th May 2008 at 12:01 PM. |

No I dont have a ocillioscope but making the connection between the PIC and Crystal seems to have made it work (Im so stupid at times)
After checking everyother connection but the crystals i couldnt see any faults but it works now so: Im happy (as Droopy says) Eidt: But school has and they ar currently rebuilding the electronics deparment so no luck there Last edited by Kryten; 8th May 2008 at 04:02 PM. |

from: http://stolz.de.be/
![]() Pin 4 on the RS232 is connected to MCLR/RESET on the PIC. If your USB->RS232 does not handle this line correctly the PIC will never come out of reset or never be reset. The loopback has to work but with a broken RESET it the ICD2 will not function.

The Pot is for using a OPAmp for targets MCLR instead ot transistors (had to improvise as the school is beeing rebuildt/upgraded and I got the wrong transistors). Its a option on stoltz schematics, but i was planning on using the orginal with transistors..
