| Given that this has gone away Quote:
Before you reprogram the chip see if you can get MPLAB to reprogram it. Under debugger or programer in the main menu "Download New OS" or similar.

I have just spent some time checking that everything is wiredup correctly and it is according to the schematics that Lothar Stoltz has made... Im using a MAX232A with 0.1uF caps... It looks like crap but it should work (based on the schematics) | |

| If you remove your 876A and short pins 17 & 18 of the socket, you should be able to run hyperterminal and see what you type in the window. Make sure you select the right com port and set flow control to "none". If you can see what you type then you max232 is working fine. Mike. |

Look at this jpg. I have indicated the states on the drawing. On the loop back test link [bottom of MAX] the two states are shown one above the other. Disconnect from thePIC while testing.! Any questions, ask..

| have a look at the first page here and see that i have been there in order to test my USB-to-series-adaptor. But i vill try it again (maybe only the software to check the max232) And i found a HyperTerminal for download.. so i think it will work.. |

| Experienced Member | A loopback test will only check the connections, the timing or latency is not checked. USB to RS232 is only an emulation and as such may not be 100% In my experience only one USB to RS232 adapter works perfectly and that's the expensive Digi (I/O networks) ones. |
