Need help in selecting microcontroller - Electronic Circuits Projects Diagrams Free

Hello
I am not familiar with microcontrollers . I am interested in them.I've heard about AT89C51 and PIC.Can someone tell me which one is suitable for a beginner

Either are fine, but PIC is the most popular - really though it depends what you can get hold of.
