If I have a .hex file made by another compiler, can I use the MPLAB IDE and PICKIT 2 to program a PIC with the hex file? Thanks!

Once it is Intel format, you should have no issue. Even there is a slight possibility it could be other format, you can still use some thirty part tool to convert it to Intel hex format. So please don't worry. Regards,
