Winbond SP03 i2c bitbang - Electronic Circuits Projects Diagrams Free

Hi

Has anyone tried using winbond speech synthesizer with "free style" speech rather than the "preset speech" with bitbanged i2c.

I'm trying out Nigel Goodwins i2c tutorial and I can get the preset speech working but not the free style method.

Maybe I'm missing something obvious, here is a link to some sp03 details http://www.robot-electronics.co.uk/htm/Sp03doc.shtml

I've used the sp03 with hardware i2c but this is the first time I have tried with this example code.
