Default interface

Can someone help me in interfacing my trasceiver to my Ziliog. I am using a Z8F642X microcontroller. My transceiver's interface is through serial..... Can I use the Generic I/O of the Ziliog or should I use its UART through max 232? How can I initialized the UART and how can I transmit and received data through UART. TNX!

Zilog Encore has built-in UART making it very easy to interface devices using RS232 protocol, initialize its UART by setting alternate pin function, setting desired baud and enabling TX or RX bits.
