CDROM interfacing - Electronic Circuits Projects Diagrams Free

Hey.

I was wondering if any of you had any experience with interfacing to an IDE CD-ROM with a PIC, or have any good links.
What i would like to do is make a cd player, so i dont really need to read the data, just send some commands(i think). I would like to add some features like fast forward, one track back, one track forwards and perhaps be able to enter a track number, but i find the IDE interface a bit scary.

Silicon chip magazine have a two part article on this:

It's based on an Atmega microcontroller but there's plenty of useful information withing the article.

Just google, there have been various PIC based CD players on the net, although it's so long ago now they may no longer be on-line?.

Well. I tried googling, but couldn't find anything useful. found a few IDE harddisk projects, but that's quite a bit different than what i'm looking for.

Thanks Nigel, just what i was looking for.
Unfortunately though, the site is no longer being maintained, and the actual schematic, source code and all of that is not available.
