Default MAX232 - Capacitor to pin 2

MAX 232 - Typical application.

The data sheet shows a polarized capacitor with the + terminal to pin 2 and the - terminal to common.

Nigel's tutorial (hardware) shows a polarized capacitor with the + terminal to pin 2 and the - terminal to +5V.

Who is right?

And - goes to...?

Datasheet and your circuit do not show the same.

And goes to +5V (VCC or VDD)

Actually it's a poor schematic above as the pin 6 cap should be -

I'll fix the post.
