Post Using the at89s51

Hi,

I'm totally new to microcontrollers and I want to start my first project with the at89c51.
I thought of building a timer / counter with 4 7segment displays.

So, does anybody know good sites dealing with at89s51?
Especially:
Which programming language is ok for that (up to now i did basic and c...) ?
Any hints for layout ?

Most 8051 code should be compatible just check where and how data is stored.
