is rs232 the only supported standard for serial port of the pc?

I can't say I've ever looked?, but I've certainly never seen any mention of it doing so.

Why would you want to use syncronous?.

The 25 pin male com ports you find on older computers (mostly as com2)
have the ability to do synchronous communications.

You won't find those ports on new computers anymore tough.
(dont mistake with the 25pin female port, wich is the printer port)
