Default How to calculate joules?

I was wondering how I could calculate joules using the formula below

E=1/2*V^2*C

E= Energy in joules
V= Working voltage
C= Capacitance in farads

What I really want to know is what the symbol ^ means and how to use it.

E=1/2*v*v*c
V^2=v*v

^ = exponentiation = power of
EG:

A^2 = A x A

B^3 = B x B x B

C^-2 = √C

That's wrong.

C^-2 = 1 / (C^2)

√C = C^(1/2)

Hell, I prefer Latex, it makes thing so much easier to to read.

C^{-2} = \frac{1}{C^2}

 \sqrt{C} = C^{\frac{1}{2}}

I hooked up my ultrahigh capacitance cap bank and it has 10 joules of power and thats only running it at 14Volts

2 caps with 19000uf and 40V
2 caps with 26000uf and 30V

All of them can handle an additional 10V.

Then running at 30V, it has 40Joules

When I discharge them, it goes KAPOP!
