Yes I did. If I didn't then you would see the equation as plain text. You should also have seen the latex tags in the quote.

It doesn't work for simple symbols, you have to put them into a formula.

For example:

[latex]\beta = {\alpha \over \gamma}[/latex]

Gives:
\beta = {\alpha \over \gamma}
