Default Scr....

In SCR circuits used for controlled rectification, the gate pulse applied through a diode....What is the purpose of this diode???Even if the diode is not there wont the circuit wrk just as well....coz even if opposite polarity current flows through the gate terminal, which is supposed to turn off the SCR,the SCR would remain off anyways since the anode-cathode voltage is negative....

It's to prevent excess reverse voltage on the SCR gate, which generally has a low reverse voltage maximum rating.

Okk.....so what would happen if this rating is exceeded....its gonna burn down the SCR????

Something like that. If you destroy the gate junction, the SCR will no longer work.
