Default voltage conversions

I have a circuit that needs 6 volts, and I was wondering if there was a way to use a 9 volt battery and convert it to 6 volts by a wya that didn't involve tansformers. Transformers are large and bulky and complicated. I know ther are voltage regulators that take voltages and convert them to 5 volts. Is there any way to do that with different volages?

It shouldn't be hard to find a 6V regulator. Check Digikey.com they have a great search engine and a huge selection. You also can buy adjustable regulators where you set the regulated voltage using two resistors.
