Default Frequency division

I'm sure this is quite an easy theory once you know what it is, but I'm afraid I dont' have a clue!!!

Can anyone tell me how you divide a frequency up so that you have a different end O/P frequency from a crystal?

I have a 32kHz crystal and I was hoping someone could tell me how I can get 10kHz and 1kHz from it! I think it may involve decade counters, but I'm not sure! I'm sure this is quite an easy theory once you know what it is, but I'm afraid I don’t' have a clue!!!

As always, any help is always appreciated.

A digital frequency divider is just a counter. You can only devide by integer numbers though so you couldn't get a 10KHz signal from it. To get the 1kHz you just use a 5 bit counter to devide the frequency by 32.
