hi

what is the proper name for the thing that holds chips and can be soldered to a pcb allowing the chip to be removed replaced?

i need some DIP16 ones

ive tried searching 'ic holder' , 'cradle' , but nothing seems to come up

It is generally referred to as an IC socket.
